Sandflies captured on film. Freaking sandflies.

A few weeks ago, back in Lyell, NZ, Brian and I camped overnight in a DOC (Department of Conservation) campground, and endured endless frustrations with the rediculous number of sand flies and all of their immediate relatives, closest friends, enemies, and their second cousins too. Brian and I performed quite the dance (literally) to make dinner outside, swatting and cursing and wiping and squishing and flicking and attempting to stay alive. Needless to say, right quick after dinner was complete, we jumped into the safe and bug-free zone of our loving tent, Hubba Hubba. Once inside, we endured a somewhat major bug killing spree (you can never enter a tent without some of the little freaks coming inside with you) before finally passing out into a somewhat blissful sleep. In the morning, we awoke to sounds similar to light rain falling. Was it raining? Nooooo, it was the massive army of sand flies swarming our tent attempting to enter the bug-free zone. Little mangy sand flies, you are relentless! We were so amazed by the number of bugs that we took a short video of the situation. It has taken me a while to get the video off Brian's camera and onto YouTube, but I finally managed the technology and so, here for you all to see is a video glimpse of the west coast sand fly epidemic:
