Gone Fishin'
Craig and Gary took Beth and I fishing at 6:00 AM last Saturday morning (a week ago now!). As we cruised out fast towards "The Spot", the wind made me think of riding on the back of Graham's Ducati, and then the waves made me think of my boating excursions at KPL last summer... We trolled for a while without any bites even resembling a false alarm, when Craig spotted the problem: I had brought bananas on board! No one told me it's bad fishing luck! So, Craig and I ate two of the bananas and we tossed the remainder into the sea as a kind gesture to the fish gods.... It worked! I had a big King fish on the line and got it right up to the boat before it took off back deep into the sea dragging the line all the way down. My arm was getting tired, so I passed the fishing rod over to Craig, who immediately managed to get the fish off the hook. Whoops. The rest of the morning we had King fish swimming by the boat here and there just to taunt us, so Craig ended up diving in with his spear gun and snorkel... Perhaps the splash Craig made jumping in the water scared all the fish away because we remained unsuccessful. That afternoon, we tried our luck at finding something nice at the local market in Nelson instead. I got a Thai lunch and beads for a buck. Later that afternoon, we squeezed in some beach time before the rain started. Here's little Cole, Hazel and Craig's adorable son.
