Milford Sound Rocks! No pun intended.

Man-oh-man, Milford Sound is an amazing place. The weather is bloody stellar, the hikes are bloody amazing, kayaking in the sound was spectacular, and the drive up to the sound makes the Rockies section of the Trans Canada Highway look like a pleasant drive in the park. Really, if you just drove up there without doing any hikes or anything - even if you didn't get out of your car - you'd still be astounded by the rugged beauty. Just before we got to the town of Milford Sound, we had to drive through a crazy tunnel over a kilometer long that runs down through a mountain. Apparently, a long time ago, the government originally sent two guys and two wooden wheelbarrows to dig the tunnel, but after a few years and little progress, they upped the anti and put more men on the job. It took twenty years and over three hundred men to build that tunnel. Whoah - I can't even imagine. Anyway, the tunnel is very steep and a bit scary to drive through, but after the fourth trip through the tunnel (that is a long story I'll tell later), I was getting used to the darkness and the drips of water falling from the top of the hand-made cave. I've got plenty more stories to write here and a multitude of photos, but we're in Te Anau late this afternoon and are planning on heading up towards Christchurch to see Becky and Johnny again. We've got a long way to go, so I'll go get myself another ice cream cone (oh yeah, sooo good), and then we'll book it north and see how far we get today.
